Big J's FIRE!

Sunday morning at 5 a.m. I went downstairs to go to the bathroom and looked out the window because I saw lights flashing. Fire trucks were stopped outside my house which is next door to my parents house. I grabbed the only blanket in my living room which happened to be Jack's and barely fit around my belly. I was still in my underwear and 9 months pregnant. I ran outside to see Big J's in flames. I looked for my family but no one was around. The fire men were trying to break the door to get inside so I ran as fast as you have ever seen a pregnant lady run to wake my parents up (I was sore for 2 days after). I banged on the doors- they turn their door bells off- but no one could hear me. Luckily, Chelsie was sleeping in Shannon's apartment on the end of the house when I banged on that door. She heard me and thought I was a crazy person so she was scared to open it. She opened the door, asked if I had any clothes on and I told her Big J's was on fire and sprinted up the stairs to tell my parents. My mom was up, dressed and out the door before I could get the whole "Big J's is on FIRE" out and my Dad sat up- looked at me and yelled "I'M SLEEPING!" It took him about 5 times of me telling him to get up because Big J's is on fire before it registered and he flew out of bed. I grabbed some of my mom's clothes so I didn't get a ticket for indecent exposure- but she is so little I looked even more ridiculous with my belly hanging out my shirt and butt tight pants. It was pouring rain and there was nothing we could do to help. I went home to get Cort and he jumped out of bed and ran all the way over to see. It is amazing how fast something can just burn up and how helpless you are just watching it. That morning we still managed to serve 130 national guard guys that we were supposed to cater for lunch.

They think the cause of the fire began in the dryer. It was turned off in the middle of the cycle and didn't cool down so the heat caught fire.
Some of the damage in the kitchen
What used to be the menu board.
The office.
The firemen
An event like this makes you step back and look at things a little differently. We are glad it wasn't our house, or that no one was injured. The fire chief said if they would have waited 10 more minutes to catch the fire the building would have had a flash-back and exploded. We are lucky someone was driving on main street at 5 a.m. on a Sunday morning that was paying attention and saw the smoke. They are estimating about 2-4 months to recover and redo the building- pretty much everything will be replaced. My parents have had so much support and people have been so kind. It is amazing to me to see how generous people are when something like this occurs. So far everything is coming into place and things are getting taken care of. My dad has a great business mind and always has his bases covered. My mom is a very hard worker and really gets things done. We have already seen many blessings through this experience and hope to be back up in business soon. As of now, the worst part about it all is that we have to be like the pioneers and make our own lunch and dinner...

Cort's 10 year reunion

Cort has been graduated from Malad High School for 10 years. Wow- time goes fast, and he is getting OLD! I had to steal this picture from Shelly Hubbard, and I am blog stalking other Malad graduates for more pictures because my camera was in the car and knew I could just get them off someone else's blog. It was good to see all Cort's old friends and meet the people he went to high school with.

36 weeks and counting...

Here is my lovely 36 week pregnant body, I honestly don't think my belly can stretch any further. I could have this baby any day now, Jack was 2 weeks early so we will see:) Hopefully really soon because I am ready to take a break from teaching Kindergarten.

SCRAPBOOK EXPO

Me, my mom, and sisters went to the scrapbook expo in Salt Lake a few weekends ago and had such a blast. We shopped, ate, scrapped a little, and just hung out for two days. It was great to hang with my sisters and mom, we have so much fun together. Thanks for the fun vacation mom!
The cutest EXPO girls

My beautician sister Shannon put hot pink extensions in our hair, very cool I know...
All our STUFF at the expo- we can really shop :)
You are only a true Egbert if you can make this face.
Did I mention we ate a lot? Well some ate more than others, Chelsie can pound Cafe Rio like nobody's business, she even beat the fat pregnant girl.

The End of Summer of Jack...

We have had such a great summer with Jack. Now Fall has settled into the air and it is an exciting time in our families lives as we prepare for Jack to have a little brother. I get kinda sad thinking that I won't be able to give Jack all my attention as well as everyone else- he is not starved a bit for attention if you can tell. So here are a few more things we were able to do this summer with Jack. You have probably noticed that most of the things Jack has done are with my dad- Jacks Pa. He is so lucky to be able to spend A LOT of time with him. We are so thankful for my parents and for the relationship they have gained with Jack he loves
them so much, plus it is really nice to have FREE babysitters too.
Roasting hot dogs, eating the last batch of strawberries, and collecting pumpkins in the red wagon with Pa.

We are so excited that my sister Chelsie's family lives so much closer to us now. We have already been able to do so many fun things with them. Jack is big enough that he can follow Sawyer around and they are starting to really play and have fun. Here they are wrestling- well Sawyer was on his stomach and Jack takes that opportunity to get on the "horsey" with anyone laying on their stomach, but it turned into wrestling.
Jack was able to go to Bountiful with my parents while I was working to go to a big blow up play place. Chelsie is teaching him how to hit a ball off the tee. He had so much fun.
Yes, Jack has learned how to throw a fit- not fun. He throws himself on the ground- gets up and does it again. This can't feel good but he continues to do it. Good thing he doesn't do it very often.

And what would the end of the summer of Jack be without cookie time? Jack loves to have cookie time with Granny and Pa, oreo cookies, and milk. He insists on having one cookie in both hands while using Grannies cup of milk to dip one and Pa's to dip the other. Very healthy.
